Sample assessment
The source records a pigment powder and two distinct solvent formulations. No pigment chemistry or instrumental size target was given.
Analyst consideration: For pigment in two ester-based solvent systems, visible-grain disappearance assesses dispersion at a defined observation scale. Formulation rheology and storage behavior may differ even when both visual checks pass.
Recorded objective
Obtain samples with no grains visible to the naked eye.
Equipment and selection
The machine entry is QXQM. TENCAN Omnidirectional Planetary Ball Mill is associated at the recorded series level. A horizontal operating mode, where mentioned, does not change the recorded QXQM family into WXQM.
Test setup
| Jar entry | Nylon jar |
|---|---|
| Media entry | Zirconia balls |
| Media-charge notation | Standard charge; individual specification not recorded |
| Sample-load entry | 10g |
| Controller speed setting | 500 |
| Cycle notation | 5/1 |
Unlabelled jar, media and load numbers remain source notation, not assigned units. Controller settings are not certified rpm. The cycle notation has no independently stated timing unit or reversing definition.
Recorded procedure and results
The QXQM setup lists a nylon jar and zirconia media. One jar contained 10 g pigment with 46 g diisostearyl malate; after sixty minutes no grains were visible. A second jar contained 10 g pigment with 62 g tridecyl trimellitate and likewise had no visible grains after sixty minutes. The duration column totals 120 minutes across the two descriptions.
Interpretation
Both recorded observations meet the stated visual objective. They are parallel formulation results, not a single two-hour run, and neither proves a submicrometre distribution, color strength or storage stability.
Practical precautions
Confirm exact solvent grades and compare each formulation independently. Retain the visual criterion and add appropriate distribution or dispersion tests if a stronger performance claim is required.
TENCAN alternatives to evaluate
TENCAN Vertical Planetary Ball Mill. A conventional vertical setup can compare each pigment solvent formulation independently. Keep the two solvent quantities and sixty-minute visual checks separate. A conventional vertical platform changes the motion relative to QXQM tumbling; keeping each solvent formulation separate allows redistribution to be compared without changing the chemistry at the same time. This is an untested comparison proposal, not a result of this trial.
Association follows the explicit QXQM source entry; only recorded tested series/configurations are related. No jar-volume inference.
