TENCANPLANETARY BALL MILLS

Molybdenum powder: a conforming-feed duration comparison.

Molybdenum powder: Maintain or reach D50 at or below 2.2 µm. Recorded setup, outcomes and evidence limits.

Sample assessment

The molybdenum feed already meets the median threshold. Very small treated changes require repeatability checks before selecting a long milling cycle. The laboratory test record documents this preparation only; applying the method to another batch requires a matched trial.

Recorded objective

Maintain or reach D50 at or below 2.2 µm.

Equipment and selection

The recorded planetary machine is XQM. The corresponding TENCAN family is the Vertical Planetary Ball Mill. The jar volume identifies the test container and does not establish an exact machine variant or production capacity. Equipment association follows the recorded machine designation.

Test setup

Recorded planetary machineXQM
Documented setup500 mL stainless-steel vacuum jar with 15–3 mm agate balls and 250 g powder; comparison 500 mL polyurethane jar with agate balls and 270 g; dry milling; speed setting 450.
Recorded operating cycleRun 5 / pause 1; units not stated in mode field

Speed values are reproduced as recorded settings. A rotational unit and planetary-disc versus jar-speed basis are not stated, so these numbers are not labelled rpm.

Recorded procedure and results

The feed already measured D50 = 1.87 µm and D90 = 2.49 µm. The vacuum-jar arrangement, evacuated and filled with argon, measured D50 = 1.72 µm and D90 = 2.44 µm at 3 hours; material was removed at 8 hours without another reported size. The polyurethane arrangement measured D50 = 1.77 µm and D90 = 2.46 µm at 5 hours and was also removed at 8 hours.

Interpretation

The feed and both measured treated samples were below the D50 limit. These small differences do not establish a required treatment duration or a meaningful improvement beyond the already conforming feed. There is no measured 8-hour distribution.

Practical precautions

Check analytical repeatability before interpreting the small differences. Keep measured sample times separate from removal times, and retain the distinct jar material, charge and atmosphere for each arrangement.

TENCAN alternatives to evaluate

For follow-up comparison, consider the TENCAN Omnidirectional Planetary Ball Mill. For molybdenum powder, a matched QXQM trial can test whether changing orientation affects molybdenum feed conformity with the shortest justified treatment. Keep sample mass, media and sampling times controlled. This is a proposed comparison; the test record does not demonstrate a superior result for that alternative. Confirm jar compatibility and the permitted complete loaded mass before selecting a configuration.

Procedure records XQM; related product is the corresponding tested machine family. Exact variant is not inferred from jar size.
