Sample assessment
The feed was copper chips rather than an already characterized fine powder. No chip dimensions or alloy composition were supplied.
Analyst consideration: Copper chips can deform as well as fragment, making recovered morphology important in addition to sieve passage. This feed should not be treated as equivalent to an initially fine copper powder.
Recorded objective
Meet a 50-mesh requirement.
Equipment and selection
The machine entry is XQM. TENCAN Vertical Planetary Ball Mill is associated at the recorded series level. No exact housing variant is inferred from jar capacity or an abbreviated machine label.
Test setup
| Jar entry | Steel 500 |
|---|---|
| Media entry | Steel 650 |
| Media-charge notation | large 5 medium 5 |
| Sample-load entry | 100 (unit not stated) |
| Controller speed setting | 550 |
| Cycle notation | 5/1 |
Unlabelled jar, media and load numbers remain source notation, not assigned units. Controller settings are not certified rpm. The cycle notation has no independently stated timing unit or reversing definition.
Recorded procedure and results
The setup lists steel jar and media. At thirty minutes and sixty minutes the changes were insufficient to meet the requirement. The procedure then increased the speed setting to 650. At the two-hour stage it states that all material passed the 50-mesh sieve, and the result is marked accepted.
Interpretation
The supported success is full passage through the recorded sieve after the adjusted sequence. The earlier observations show why the final point cannot be replaced by a one-hour claim. Mesh is retained without an assumed aperture conversion.
Practical precautions
Record the sieve standard and recovered fractions when repeating. Confirm the actual adjusted program and loaded jar condition rather than equating the raw setting with a calibrated rotation speed.
TENCAN alternatives to evaluate
TENCAN Compact Horizontal Planetary Ball Mill. A horizontal platform can be compared for copper-chip motion. Preserve the all-passing 50-mesh check and distinguish this material from a fine copper-powder feed. A horizontal jar arrangement changes the gravity component acting on chips and media, offering a way to compare chip movement without assuming that a higher setting alone solves deformation. This is an untested comparison proposal, not a result of this trial.
Association follows the explicit XQM source entry; only recorded tested series/configurations are related. No jar-volume inference.
