Particle sizes for the recorded sample and sampling time.
Sample assessment
The feed was granular ammonium bicarbonate and was recovered as an alcohol-based slurry at the measured checkpoint. The test combined zirconia contact with external air cooling. Selection must preserve the wet formulation and distinguish the sampled 60-minute condition from the unmeasured additional milling period.
Recorded objective
A recorded D50 objective of 10 µm.
Equipment and selection
The source identifies XQM family. The related TENCAN product association is Vertical Planetary Ball Mill, Air-Cooled Planetary Ball Mill. This identifies the recorded equipment family, rather than an independently verified serial-number configuration. Jar contact materials and charge details below are test observations; an unspecified steel grade or ball-percentage basis is not supplied by the association.
Test setup
| Recorded setup | XQM planetary family with air cooling; zirconia jar and zirconia balls, standard charge; 60 g granular material; setting 400; run/pause cycle recorded as 5:1; interval units unspecified. |
|---|---|
| Speed notation | Values are retained as recorded speed settings. The source does not identify the revolution/rotation reference; no separate jar speed is inferred. |
Recorded procedure and results
The material was wet milled with alcohol while using air cooling. At 60 minutes the suspension had D50 = 9.4 µm and D90 = 18.2 µm. The procedure describes the material as a slurry at this point. Milling continued for another 20 minutes and the sample was retained for subsequent assessment. The duration field gives 80 minutes. No new particle-size measurement was recorded for the final 20-minute extension.
Interpretation
The measured 60-minute median is below the numerical D50 objective and supplies the favorable observed endpoint. The final extension should not be presented as an independently measured improvement. D90 = 18.2 µm also shows that a D50 result does not mean every particle is below 10 µm. Air cooling formed part of the test arrangement, but neither a set temperature nor a measured temperature series was supplied, so thermal control cannot be quantified from this record.
Practical precautions
Record alcohol identity and quantity, because the note gives only a generic solvent description. Verify temperature during any repeat and preserve the 60-minute sample for comparison with the extended run. Assess slurry recovery and handling before choosing a longer process.
TENCAN alternatives to evaluate
TENCAN Liquid-Nitrogen-Cooled Planetary Ball Mill: Evaluate liquid-nitrogen cooling only if a defined thermal requirement cannot be met with the recorded air-cooling arrangement. Confirm formulation compatibility and log actual temperature and slurry recovery; the current record supplies no temperature comparison or verified advantage for colder operation. This is a recommendation for a new comparison, not an observed result of this trial.
Endpoint context: D50 = 9.4 µm; D90 = 18.2 µm at 60 minutes; later 20-minute extension unmeasured.
Tested equipment association only: XQM family; exact machine variant not inferred. External air cooling explicitly recorded; air-cooled family added as an association, not a replacement machine identity.
